Josephine Alford Faulty Manufacturing

Josie Alford is a poet, performer and workshop facilitator who has performed at events and festivals around the country. Her poetry fuses the techniques of written poetry and spoken word. Faulty Manufacturing is about the loss of a father, domestic violence, trauma and how to reconcile that with one’s grief. The collection is defined by the fractured nature of memory and is driven by a whirlwind of emotion, searching for meaning in old family stories. This collection shapes a horribly painful experience yet evokes a strange, posthumous ambivalence towards the father. The sometimes self-consciously dismissive tone gives grief a new form in which to appear and the deliciously jarring humour gives it a sparkly jacket.
