In the summer of 1970, Ellen Kowalski’s life is upended after a call from her estranged father sends her on a series of unexpected journeys – from San Francisco, CA to Communist Poland. A cast of colourful secondary characters force Ellen to explore marriage, religion, and the way the past shapes the present.

Meanwhile, Ellen’s husband Paul faces turmoil over his wife’s erratic behaviour. After a work accident leaves him injured, he must decide: are the words Ellen tells him enough, or do her actions need to reflect the love they both deserve?
